Directed by Paulo Morelli. About to turn 18, best buddies Laranja and Acerola decide to change their lives. While Laranja is determined to find his father, who he never met, Acerola wants to embark in romantic adventures. Nevertheless, a war between rival drug gangs from Rio's favelas gets into their way, making things more complicated than they thought it would ever be.

Tropa de Elite é um filme brasileiro lançado em 2007 e dirigido por José Padilha. O filme retrata a violência urbana no Rio de Janeiro, trazendo uma narrativa semi-ficcional das ações do BOPE (Batalhão de Operações Especiais) da Polícia Militar do Rio.

Elite Squad is a Brazilian movie released in 2007 and directed by José Padilha. The film portrays the urban violence in Rio de Janeiro, and brings a semi-fictional account of the Special Police Operation Squad of Rio de Janeiro military police (equivalent to the American SWAT teams).

Welcome to our Brazilian Cine Club @ UNC Charlotte!

The BRACINE project was first idealized and held by Dr. Martha Miller and the graduate teaching assistants Xanda Lemos and Christina O'Connor, during the Fall of 2010.

Now it returns under the coordination of Xanda Lemos (Alexandra Lemos Zagonel, instructor of Brazilian Culture and Civilization, and Brazilian Portuguese Language at UNC Charlotte), with the support from the Department of Languages and Culture Studies from UNCC.

Students, community, faculty, and staff are more than welcome to join us!

Our meetings will take place every other Tuesday, at  6:30 pm, at Friday Building, room 381 (UNCC main campus).

The first screening is on Tuesday Feb. 12, 2013.
