Dia 12 de março: Cidade de Deus X Central do Brasil

Today we will vote for watching one of these two movies.

City of God (Cidade de Deus) is a 2002 Brazilian film directed by Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund. It is an adaptation of the homonymous novel (released in 1997) written by Paulo Lins. The movie is set between the 60's and the 70's, and depicts the growth of organized crime in one of Rio de Janeiro’s suburban regions, named Cidade de Deus.

Central Station is a 1998 film which tells the story of Josué, a poor 9-year-old boy who has never met his father, but hopes to do so. His mother sends letters to his father through Dora, an embittered professor who works at the train station writing messages for the illiterate. When Josué's mom is killed in a bus accident just outside the train station, the boy is left homeless. Dora takes him in and traffics him to a corrupt couple, but she is made to feel guilty by her neighbor and friend Irene and later steals him back. Together they will embark in a journey to the inlands of Brazil, in order to try to find Josué's father.
